Ambassador Ishii visited affected areas in East and Central Tongatapu after Tropical Cyclone Gita

On Thursday, 1 March 2018, H.E. Tetsuya Ishii, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Kingdom of Tonga, visited some of the communities and the schools in Eastern and Central Tongatapu island that were ravaged by tropical cyclone Gita. H.E. observed how the emergency relief goods and last year's Japan’s assistance for disaster prevention and preparedness through the Non-Project Grant Aid, especially the tents, were utilized by the local people and witnessed firsthand NEMO operation management in cooperation with members of HMAF and the Tonga Police.

"I do wish that the emergency relief goods are fully and effectively utilized to meet urgent needs of the affected people, and also wish the goods will contribute for Tonga’s early recovery” stated H.E. Mr. Ishii.
