Relief items donated from the Tongan community in Japan were handed over to the government of Tonga

On 12th June, relief items donated from the Tongan community in Japan for the people of Tonga, who were affected by tropical cyclone Gita, was handed over to the Government of Tonga, which was represented by the Deputy Prime Minister, Hon. Semisi Sika, and the Minister for MEIDECC Hon. Poasi Tei. The Ambassador of Japan, H.E. Mr. Tetsuya Ishii and his wife, Mrs. Akiko Ishii, were both present to witness this happy event.

The relief items contained necessary household goods in daily life such as 2 liter water bottles, hygiene products including shampoos and soaps, toilet papers, towels, and food.

Hon. Poasi Tei in his thank you address, said that the goods will be distributed to 300 families, who were severely affected by tropical cyclone Gita. He also pointed out that the relief items were to be distributed immediately right after the ceremony using the NEMO emergency trucks that were donated by the Government of Japan to the Government of Tonga just last year prior to Tonga being ravaged by tropical cyclone Gita.
