Result from the District Soroban Competition in Tongatapu

The Soroban Competition co-hosted annually by the Embassy of Japan in the Kingdom of Tonga and the Ministry of Education and Training concluded its District Competition for Tongatapu schools on Thursday, 25 August 2016 at the Queen Salote Memorial Hall.

49 Primary Schools participated in this year’s District Competition throughout Tongatapu, and brought about 900 soroban students from Class 3, 4 and 5 to compete each other in the written examination, oral examination and flash examination. Fanga Government Primary School won the Central District Soroban Competition held on Thursday, 25 August at the Queen Salote Memorial Hall, Hofoa Government Prime School won the Western District Competition held on Thursday, 18 August at the Alai-Pulotu Hall in Te’ekiu and Hoi Government Primary School won the Eastern District Competition held on Tuesday, 16 August 2016 at the Beulah College Vakaua Hall, in Vaini.

The top 30% students from each District Competition will represent Tongatapu Primary Schools in the National Soroban Competition, held in March 2017. (Please refer to the attachments for the result of Tongatapu competition; central district, south district and east district).

Embassy of Japan and the Ministry of Education and Training co-hosted the Soroban Competitions since 2010, with district competition in the outer islands before the National Competition every March. The 2016 district competition will be completed with the ‘Eua Island on September, 8th .
