Japan Handed Over Emergency Assistance for Cyclone Disaster
-
On January 24, Mr. Tetsumi Murata, Chargés d'Affaires ad interim of Japan to the Kingdom of Tonga presented emergency relief goods worth 13 million Japanese Yen (600 portable Jerry Cans (water container), 30 collapsible Water Tanks (3,700L), and transportation charges) to Honorable Samiu Kuita Vaipulu, Acting Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Tonga.
In response to the request from the Government of the Kingdom of Tonga, the Government of Japan has decided to provide emergency assistance from a humanitarian point of view for the victims as well as in light of friendly relations between the two countries. The emergency relief goods were extended to the Kingdom of Tonga through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in response to the request from the Government of Tonga following serious damage by Cyclone Ian.
The emergency relief goods will leave Tongatapu for Ha'apai on January 24 after filling portable Jerry Cans with water, and be delivered on January 25.
The Embassy of Japan wishes that the emergency items contribute to addressing urgent needs on the ground in Ha'apai and are fully utilized to meet such needs in remote islands.
