Japan Provides Assistance to Upgrade Tupou High School, Nukunuku Campus

The Grant Contract formalizing the Government of Japan providing assistance to upgrade the Tupou High School, Nukunuku Campus was signed between H.E Dr. Kazuchika Hamuro, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Kingdom of Tonga and Mr. Holani Tu'inauvai, Chairperson of the Parents and Teachers Association of Tupou High School, Nukunuku Campus at 10:00am, Tuesday morning, 4th February, 2014. The ceremony was also attended by Dr. 'Ana Hau'alofa'ia Koloto, Chairperson for the Nukunuku Village Education Committee, and other notable guests.
H.E. Dr. Kazuchika Hamuro in his key note address confirmed the significance of this project funded through the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) which ensures that assistance is provided for priority needs. "This project meets the aim of GGP and will contribute to improving the quality of Universal Basic Education, which is one of the priority objectives of Tonga's development strategy."
In the word of thanks, Dr. Koloto thanked the people and Government of Japan for their assistance. "We thank you and the people and Government of Japan for your generosity, and willingness to shares the resources that are available to you, to improve the lives of the people of Tonga and in particular this morning, the students, staff and community of the Tupou High School Nukunuku Campus."
The Parents and Teachers' Association of Tupou High School, Nukunuku Campus, sought for Japan's assistance in September 2013, prioritizing a safer and healthier education environment for their children. (Refer to attached Project Fact Sheet for detail of assistance)
The ground breaking ceremony was also held subsequently, on Tuesday.
