  • Application for the Japanese-Language Program
  • - This program is intended to offer outstanding students of the Japanese language at universities, colleges, and the educational institutions abroad the opportunity to visit Japan and deepen their knowledge of the Japanese language, society, and culture for the purpose of further encouragement of their study.
    - As for the details of the Japanese-Language Program, please refer to the Program Announcement
  • Primary Selection
  • - The Embassy of Japan is to be the focal point for inquiries, distribution, and recepetion of applications, and conducting the primary selection.
    - The Embassy of Japan will carry out the primary selection of applicants by means of an interview, a written examination, a review of the submitted documents, and Japanese speech in the Japanese Speech Contest organized by the Embassy of Japan.
    - Applicants who pass the primary selection will be recommended by the Embassy of Japan to Japan Foundation Japanese-Language Institute, Kansai.



  • (1) Documents to be submitted
  • The applicants must submit the following documents to the Embassy of Japan between April 28th, Monday and May 2nd, Friday.
    - Application Form
    - Self-Introduction Form


  • (2)Written examination
  • - Date: 8th May, Thursday
    - Time: from 8:30am to 10:00am *Applicants are to arrive by 8:15am
    - Place: SUITE 2, 3rd Floor, National Reserve Bank of Tonga Building


  • (3) Interview
  • - Date: 8th May, Thursday
    - Time: from 10:30am *Applicants are to arrive by 10:15am
    - Place: 5th floor conference room, Embassy of Japan, National Reserve Bank of Tonga Building


  • (4) Speech
  • - Applicants are to prepare the speech in Japanese on the assigned theme and present it in front of the audience within the designated time limit in the Japanese Speech Contest (if applicant continues to speak over the time limit, his/her points will be deducted ).
    - Four judges will evaluate the speaker in accordance with the criteria described in the guideline of Japanese Speech Contest.
    - Date: 8th May, Thursday
    - Time: from 1:30am *Applicants are to arrive by 1:15pm
    - Place: St. Andrew’s High School
    - Theme: Japan
    - Time limit: 5 minutes


  • (5) The Announcement of the Primary Selection   
  • Results of the primary selection will be announced at the Japanese Speech Contest.
  • Secondary Selection
  • - Japan Foundation Japanese-Language Institute, Kansai will conduct the secondary (final) selection of the applicants recommended by the Embassy of Japan.
    - Results of the secondary selection will be notified by telephone from the Embassy of Japan by 31st July.
