  • Japanese Television Program “Marumo No Okite” handed over to Tonga Broadcasting Commission


  • H.E. Dr. Kazuchika Hamuro, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Tonga handed over one of Japanese Television Program titled “Marumo No Okite,” to Tonga Broadcasting Commission (TBC) on Thursday, 8th January 2015. Honourable Poasi Mataele Tei, Minister for Public Enterprises accepted the donated program in a handover ceremony held from 10:00am at the TBC’s main studio, in Fasi mo e Afi.

    The ceremony was also attended by Lady ‘Eseta Fusitu’a, Chairlady of the TBC’s Board of Directors; Lady Tuna Fielakepa and Members of the Board of Directors; Ms. Nanise Fifita, TBC’s General Manager, and staff of TBC.

    H.E. Dr. Hamuro said he was honoured to present to the TBC one of Japanese genuine television drama series and wxpressed his hope that the Tongan public will enjoy this suitable television program for the whole family. Ambassador Hamuro also thanked Lady ‘Eseta Fusitu’a and Ms. Nanise Fifita for the cooperation and continuous support to broadcast Japanese television programs and showcase Japanese modern culture for the Tongan public.

    The Hon. Poasi Tei was grateful for the ongoing assistance of the Government of Japan for the development of TBC, in its performance and contents. He acknowledged the assistance which also marks a milestone of the cordial relations between both countries.

    “Marumo No Okite,” is a family drama with 11 episodes premiered in 2011. It is the third handover of Japanese television programs donated to TBC by Japan Foundation, the independent administrative body that introduces Japan to the rest of the world. Tonga Broadcasting Commission has been the only broadcaster in Tonga authorized by Japan Foundation under the scheme “The Promotion of TV Broadcasting Abroad Program” since 2010 and it is to broadcast the program in the next three years.

    The Government of Japan wishes to continue this partnership through Japan Foundation with more programs to be handed over in the coming years and to strengthen the friendly ties between the people and government of Japan and Tonga.
