  • H.E.Ambassador. Numata visits Soroban classes at GPS Hofoa
  • On July 30th, His Excellency Mr. Yukio Numata, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Kingdom of Tonga visited Soroban classes at GPS Hofoa. From the Ministry of Education and Training, Mrs. ‘Oto’ota Fifita, Area Manager for West Tongatapu, Mr. Loani Tahitu’a, Soroban officer, and Mrs. Aloisia Fifita, Senior Assistant Teacher, Mrs. Uaniva Mohu, the principal of GPS Hofoa, and Ms. Yuka Nagaoka, JICA volunteer accompanied the Ambassador and explained about the Soroban classes.

    Soroban education has been incorporated as a compulsory element of the mathematics subjects from Class 3 to Class 5 in all the Government Primary Schools in the Kingdom. His Excellency Mr. Numata encouraged all the students in their study by saying “Soroban is very effective to cultivate mathematical knowledge, and I myself studied soroban in my primary school era. Every day’s repetition is important. So, please continue to work hard to master Soroban.”
