Japanese anime film “Miyori no Mori” featured in Tonga Schools

- The Japanese Film Screening for 2015 featured one of Japan’s anime film titled the “Miyori no Mori.” His Excellency Mr. Yukio Numata, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Kingdom of Tonga attended the first screening held at the Tupou High School -Nukunuku on Friday, 30 October.
- Miyori no Mori is a 116 minutes anime film released in August 2007, and directed by Nizo Yamamoto, known for a number of his art directions on Studio Ghibli films. The anime narrates a young city girl who moved in the care of her grandparents living near a forest. She soon encounters unbelievable things in the forest but importantly she grew to value not only the generosity of people, but the beauty of nature.
- The second film screening was held on Wednesday, 11 November for Tertiary Students of the St. Joseph’s Business College, in Fasi mo e Afi village. Mrs. Soana Kauhalaniua, Principal of St. Joseph’s Business College acknowledged the opportunity given for her students to exclusively view one of Japan’s anime films, and learn from the message depicted by the film.
- Japanese anime films are rarely available in DVD shops in the Kingdom hence the Embassy of Japan and the Japan Foundation cooperated to host the Japanese Film Screening every year since 2010. These Japanese Film Screening events are also held to enhance knowledge of the views into live style of the people of Japan and strengthen the relations between the people and the Government of Tonga and the people and the Government of Japan.
