Tongan students enlightened from High School Students Islands Summit on World Tsunami Awareness Day 2017, in Okinawa Japan

On 6 December 2017, H.E Mr. Tetsuya Ishii, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Tonga hosted the young students from Tonga High School who joined the High School Students Islands Summit on World Tsunami Awareness Day in Okinawa Japan, for the reporting session at the Embassy in Nuku’alofa.
Six students from Tonga High School represented Tonga to the Summit and participated in activities held in Okinawa from November 7 – 8. They were accompanied by Ms. Mauiana Lemoto, the Deputy Principal of the School.
In sharing their experience from the Summit, the students were enlightened with their study tour to Ishigaki Island, witnessing a tsunami rock and participating in a tsunami evacuation drill and sharing experience with local high school student of Japan. Each of the students expressed their confidence, in return, to share their experience to minimize the impacts of damages caused by earthquakes and tsunamis at home, in their communities and at school.
The Summit commemorated the World Tsunami Awareness Day (5th November), and invited 149 students from 25 countries around the world to discuss and give presentation on disaster preventions themes with over 100 students in Japan.
The student from Tonga were; Selesia Uele, Asena Ula, Tala ‘o Falefa Kefu, Willis Tu’ipulotu, Tiueti ‘Otuhouma and Faka’anaua Holi.
