Japan GGP handover for FWC Fasi moe Afi Kindergarten

The Government of Japan and the Free Wesleyan Church Fasi moe Afi Kindergarten celebrated the completion of their new kindergarten building funded through Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects, known as the GGP, on Tuesday, 22 January 2019.
Hon. Halaevalu Moheofo Aleamotu’a attended the handover ceremony as the guest of honour with His Excellency Mr. Tetsuya Ishii, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan and Mrs. Ishii. Present also at the ceremony were Lord Tupou and Lady Tupou, Mr. Siaosi Sovaleni, Parliament Representative for Tongatapu Constituency #3, Rev. Dr. Mele’ana Puloka, President of the FWC Schools, Pioneer Teachers and Students of the Kindergarten, Parents and Teachers and the young pupils of the kindergarten.
Ambassador Ishii congratulated the completion of the project emphasizing that education is the basis of each individual, society and the nation. He stated that “early childhood education, which is also recognized by the Sustainable Development Goals, provides the important first step for a child to grow into strong and responsible individual that would uphold Tonga and the international society.” He also added that “it is also a valuable stage in one’s life for obtaining happy memories by growing up together with friends and teachers.”
Rev. Tevita Latailakepa, Chairman of the Parents and Teachers Association of the kindergarten acknowledged the assistance from the people and the Government of Japan. He said that Japan’s assistance brings a lot of joy to the young pupil of the school, and the young pupil will now enjoy attending a much safer educational environment.
This project was formalized in August 2018, with a grant amount of USD$84,745 to fund construction of the new kindergarten building, with two classrooms, one office room and a bathroom facility.
Japan’s GGP was introduced in 1990 to respond directly to the basic human needs at the grass-roots level. The assistance epitomized Japan’s commitment to support efforts by the people and the Government of Tonga to ensure Human Security and continue to enrich the existing warm and close relations between the people and the Government of Japan and the people of the Kingdom of Tonga.
