Japan express deepest condolences to the Kingdom of Tonga

    H.E. Ambassador Ishii of Japan joins the people and Government of Tonga in mourning the loss of their beloved Prime Minister, Hon. Samuela 'Akilisi Pohiva. Recalling the many occasions that the Ambassador had met Tonga's late Prime Minister, he admires Hon. Pohiva as a humble and sincere man with inspirational principles, and will miss the warm and cordial friendship of Tonga's late Prime Minister.

    The Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe, also extends his deep condolences to family of the late Prime Minister as well as the people and Government of Tonga, and remembers the contributions that the late Prime Minister Hon. Pohiva made to further promote Tonga and Japan's bilateral relations, especially during his attendance of the PALM 7 in 2015. Japan's Foreign Minister, Toshimitsu Motegi, also fondly remembers Hon. Pohiva's great support for Japan's initiative the "Free and Open Indo-Pacific Strategy."

    During this sorrowful time, H.E. Ambassador Ishii conveys his deepest condolences to Hon. Samuela 'Akilisi Pōhiva’s family. With heartfelt sympathies, "May Hon. Pohiva's spirit rest in eternal peace."
