"Improving good Calculation skll, Concentration and Confidence" GPS Faleloa won Ha’apai Soroban Competition

Winners from the Soroban Competition for Primary Schools of  Ha‘apai islands were awarded with their prizes on Friday, 19 June 2020 with the best overall school won by the Government Primary School of Faleloa.
This year, the soroban competition was held in each of the seven primary schools in Ha’apai, considering the national COVID 19 restriction. The finalists of each school then competed last Friday at the GPS Pangai, with the best overall school awarded to Faleloa GPS. Second place was won by Fotua GPS and Hihifo GPS came third.
H.E. Mr. ISHII Tetsuya, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Tonga sent an encouragement letter to the young students and in his letter he reminded them to learn soroban “as it is not only good for improving your calculation skills, but also for boosting your concentration and for enhancing your confidence.”
Prizes were awarded to top three students of the written, oral and flash examination, each for classes 3, 4 and 5, along with prizes to the teachers competition.
The Soroban Competition for primary schools in the Kingdom has been a successful collaboration of the Embassy of Japan and Tonga’s Ministry of Education and Training, since 2010. The Soroban Competition in Ha’apai kicks off the District Soroban Competition for 2020, with the next competition schedule a to be held for Vava’u in August.
