Reception to Celebrate the 63rd Birthday of the Emperor of Japan His Majesty the Emperor Naruhito
On Thursday, 23rd February, Their Majesties King Tupou VI and Queen Nanasipau'u graced the reception to celebrate the 63rd birthday of His Majesty, Emperor Naruhito of Japan, with Their presence as the event’s Paramount Guests. H.E. Mr. MUNENAGA Kensaku, Ambassador of Japan to Tonga, and his wife, Mrs. MUNENAGA Yoshiko, welcomed Their Majesties and in the Ambassador’s greetings he not only expressed their profound joy of the opportunity to spend an evening in the presence of Their Majesties but also elaborated on the warm and good relation between Their Majesties King Tupou VI and Emperor Naruhito, which is the foundation of Tonga and Japan’s friendship. 
During the celebration, the Government of Tonga, represented by the Hon. Samiu Kuita Vaipulu, Acting Prime Minister of Tonga, looked back on the collaboration between Tonga and Japan during the triple disasters of the Hunga-Tonga Hunga-Ha'apai volcanic eruption, tsunami and the COVID-19 pandemic, reflecting upon the historical assistances received from the people and Government of Japan. 
It was a jubilant occasion attended by many guests, who enjoyed an evening of dining from specially made Japanese cuisines, “washoku,” and a selection of fine Japanese sake.
