Japan’s GGP Handover for ‘Ahopanilolo Technical Institute

The Embassy of Japan and the ‘Ahopanilolo Technical Institute celebrated the completion of a new classroom building, funded through Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grass Roots Human Security Project (GGP) on Wednesday, 13 March 2024.

His Excellency Mr. INAGAKI Hisao Ambassadir of Japan to the Kingdom of Tonga handed over the new building during a ceremony attended by Mr. Soane Vahe, Director of Catholic Schools and Fr. Chris Kaitapu, Chaplain for Catholic School TVET. Also attended the ceremony were Representatives from the Ministry of Finance, Contractor, Parents and Teachers Association, Principal, Teachers, and student of ‘Ahopanilolo Technical Institute.

H.E. Mr. INAGAKI applauded the dedication and efforts of the ‘Ahopanilolo PTA to complete the project. “I believe that education is the foundation for a bright future for everyone. I hope that the vocational knowledge and skills you gain from this school will help you to succeed both in the Kingdom of Tonga and around the world, including Japan. Perhaps I will see you in Japan one day.” said the Ambassador.

He also acknowledged the dedication and cooperation from all stakeholders, to make the initiative a reality.
Mr. Soane Vahe, Director of Catholic Schools thanked the Ambassador, the people, and the Government of Japan for their generous assistance. He said the new facility will greatly provide a better service for the students of ‘Ahopanilolo.

‘Ahopanilolo sought for Japan’s GGP prioritizing a better educational environment for the growing number of students. The new facility will accommodate the National Certificate in Work Readiness and Employability Skills classes.

Japan’s GGP, first assisted the Institute in 2012 with a laundry building.
