Japan’s Sports Diplomacy Enhancement extends support to Tonga
On the 12th February 2025, the Embassy of Japan in Tonga handed over a donation of Rugby equipment on behalf of the Japan Rugby Football Union, to the Tonga Rugby Union. This donation included 150 rugby balls, 140 markers, 4 tackle bags and other items.
 
Ambassador INAGAKI stressed that rugby has been playing an important role in the bilateral relations between Japan and Tonga, promoting cultural and people-to-people exchange.
 
Mr. ‘Aisea Aholeilei, the CEO of the Tonga Rugby Union, extended his profound gratitude to the Japan Football Rugby Union and the people of Japan for this generous donation, in addition to the construction of a new training facility, which was signed on 17th January 2025 as part of Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Cultural Project. He hoped that Japan continues to play a key role in Tonga's rugby development in order to nurture future rugby players who bridge Japan and Tonga.
