Japan formalized GGP assistance to Tonga Airports Limited

The Grant Contract to formalize a Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Project, GGP from the Government of Japan to Tonga Airports Limited was signed on Wednesday, 12 February 2025, in Fuaʻamotu International Airport.
H.E. Mr. INAGAKI Hisao, Ambassador of Japan to Tonga, formalized the assistance with Mr. Edgar Cocker, Chief Executive Officer, Tonga Airports Limited. Members of the Board of Directors for Tonga Airports were also present at the ceremony.
“The provision of this new chemical fire truck exemplified the strong bond between our two nations and our shared commitment to enhancing safety and emergency preparedness. Ensuring constant readiness with a fire truck stationed at Ha’apai Airport to deal with any emergencies during flight operations is of the most importance,” said the Ambassador, H.E. Mr. INAGAKI.
He hopes that Japan’s GGP will continue to play an important role in building stronger and more resilient societies in the Kingdom, and that the warm and close friendship between Japan and Tonga will continue to be enriched by the cooperation.
Tonga Airports Limited sought Japan’s assistance in prioritizing efficient services and enhancing emergency preparedness at the airport for Tonga. The fire truck will be stationed at Ha’apai airport, which currently lacks the capacity for emergency response vehicles.
Mr. Michael Bloomfield, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors thanked the people and Government of Japan for their generous donation, which will benefit Tonga Airports Limited but the community as a whole.
