On November 14, 2025, a handover ceremony for the “The Project for Improvement of the Water Supply System in Tokomololo” was held under Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP).

Mr. Toshiyuki Daishoji, Acting Ambassador of Japan to the Kingdom of Tonga, handed over the newly constructed water supply facilities to the Tokomololo Village 2 Water Committee. The ceremony was attended by Hon. Siosaia Lausi’i Ma‘afu, Mrs. Kilisitina Tuaimei'api, CEO of the Ministry of Finace, and the community, who gathered to celebrate the completion of the project.

In his speech, Mr. Daishoji expressed his deep appreciation for the efforts and dedication of the people of Tokomololo toward the successful completion of the project. He also emphasized that the stable supply of clean water is essential for maintaining a healthy and hygienic daily life. Hon. Siosaia Lausi’i Ma‘afu with people of Tokomololo Village, expressed his profound gratitude to the Government and people of Japan, stating that the assistance has made it possible for residents to have access to clean water at any time.

This assistance was provided by the Government of Japan in response to a request from the Tokomololo Village 2 Water Committee, the recipient organization, to address water shortages caused by increased demand in the Hangai area. The project included the installation of one electric water pump, one water storage tank, one tank stand, and a main distribution pipeline.

The Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) scheme was introduced in the Kingdom of Tonga in 1990 to address development needs at the community level. Since then, more than 300 projects have been implemented across various sectors throughout the country.
