Japan’s GGP Handover of the Water Supply Upgrade for Navutoka Village

On January 28, 2026, a handover ceremony was held for “The Project for Improvement of the Water Supply System of Navutoka Village”, funded through Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP).
H.E. Mr. INAGAKI Hisao, Ambassador of Japan to the Kingdom of Tonga, expressed appreciation and applauded the determination and dedication of the people of Navutoka Village in completing their water supply project. Ambassador reiterated the warm relations between Japan’s Imperial Household and the Royal Family of Tonga, and confirmed his commitment to strengthening the bilateral relationship between the two countries.
Mr. Safinati Halatuituia, on behalf of Navutoka village expressed profound gratitude to Japan’s GGP assistance, upgrading the village’s water supply, an essential element for human development.  
Provision of Japan’s GGP enabled the installation of approximately 6.6 km of the main water pipelines throughout the village, assuring people of Navutoka village now have access to clean and sufficient water supply.
The Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) scheme was introduced in the Kingdom of Tonga in 1990 and addressed development needs at the community level. To date, over 300 projects have been implemented across various village and communities, throughout the country.
