Japan Formalized Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) for Tonga

On February 4, 2026, a signing ceremony was held for “The Project for the Construction of Class Rooms and Multipurpose Hall at the Free Wesleyan Primary and Middle School of Kolovai”, funded by Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects, better known as GGP.

H.E. Mr. INAGAKI Hisao, Ambassador of Japan to the Kingdom of Tonga in his address emphasized that, The projects signed aims to improve the school environment and support recovery from disasters.”
 
“I hope that these projects will play an important role in building a more resilient society in the Kingdom of Tonga, and that the friendly relationship between our two countries will continue to deepen through our mutual cooperation.”
 
Rev. Dr. ‘Ungatea Kata, President of Free Wesleyan Church Schools on behalf of the Recipient acknowledged the assistance and highlighted that, the approval of this project represents not merely infrastructure support, but an investment in the safety, education, and future of our children.
 
“Japan’s GGP scheme symbolizes the partnership, trust, and enduring friendship between Tonga and Japan. Through your generosity, our children will soon be taught in a safe, suitable and dignified classrooms.
 
Rev. Samisoni Tuiaki, Chairperson of the school’s PTA signed for the assistance.
