Japanese Speech Contest 2026

The Embassy of Japan in the Kingdom of Tonga and Ministry of Education and Training successfully hosted the "Japanese Speech Contest 2026" on Friday, 11 September 2026, at the Queen Salote College Hall. Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Sinaitakala Tuku'aho and Her Royal Highness Princess Halaevalu Mata'aho Tuku'aho graced the contest with their presence.
This year's contest saw the participation of 26 students from six secondary schools across Tonga. The students passionately showcased the fruits of their daily Japanese language studies in various categories: Form 4 "Self-Introduction," Form 5 "My Favourite Person," Form 6 "My Dream," and the "Open Category" with a free theme.
Certificates were awarded to the top three speakers in each category, and special prizes, generously sponsored by Narita Airport Business Corporation as well as Toyota Tsusho Corporation and Asco Motors Tonga, were presented to all contestants. In addition to inspiring speeches, cultural performances by the participating schools were also showcased, keeping the venue vibrant and lively throughout the event.
