  • Japanese Language Study Program participated by Tonga
  • On Friday, 20th September 2013, Ms. Fisi'itotoa 'Ahofono Lihau, the winner of Tonga's Japanese Speech Contest of 2013, paid a courtesy visit to H.E Dr. Kazuchika Hamuro Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Kingdom of Tonga, upon her return from Osaka, Japan, after participating in the 2013 Japanese Language Study Program that was held from August 28th to September 10th.

Ms. Lihau showed her excitement over her participation in the Study Program which she found very beneficial in term of her Japanese language education. "I have learned a lot from this program and have identified ways to develop my knowledge of the Japanese language," said Ms. Lihau. With enthusiasm to enhance that knowledge, she bought textbooks and dictionaries and any material she saw vital for her studying Japanese away from Japan.

H.E Dr. Kazuchika Hamuro was pleased with the successful participation of Ms. Lihau at the Japanese Language Study Program, and was equally pleased with her eagerness to continue learning and teaching the language in the future.

This year, the Study Program brought to Japan 67 outstanding Japanese language learners around the world, four of which were from the Pacific Islands, including Ms. Lihau from the Kingdom of Tonga. The Program included various activities; home visits, a lecture in the Kansai dialect; training trips and an exchange program which included trips to Tokyo/Kyoto/Hiroshima; a culture experience program which included calligraphy, tea ceremony, flower arranging, kimono/yukuta wearing, taiko/Japanese drums and aikito training.

Ms. Lihau has resumed her studies as a 2nd Year Student at the Tonga Institute of Education. She looks forward to her 3rd Year with the completion of the first ever Japanese Language Laboratory built in Nuku'alofa at the Tonga Institute of Education under the Government of Japan's assistance.
