Japan Assists Integrated Education at Ngele'ia Government Primary School

On October 10th 2013, the Government of Japan handed over the Project for Upgrading of Ngele'ia Government Primary School (GPS). His Excellency Dr. Kazuchika Hamuro, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Kingdom of Tonga commissioned the completed project on behalf of the People and the Government of Japan. Honorable Dr. 'Ana Taufe'ulungaki, Minister for Education and Training attended on behalf of the Government of Kingdom of Tonga.
In his statement, H.E. Dr. Hamuro highlighted that he process of development should be inclusive, and education is a must-have tool for anyone to meet their own aspirations in life. His Excellency also added that such ideal coincident with human security and inclusive growth that the Government of Japan wishes to promote for.
Hon. Dr. Taufe'ulungaki expressed her sincere appreciation to Japan's continuing support to the education sector, including the commissioned project, on behalf of the Government of Japan.
The project was funded through the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) of the Government of Japan. Japan is currently implementing technical cooperation through the Asian Development Bank to provide social protection to the vulnerable in the Kingdom of Tonga, and the project to refurbish one of the facilities of the handicapped is soon to be completed. Japan has funded several grassroots projects to support the provision of education and training opportunities for the handicapped since 1993 through the GGP.
