  • Tonga participates the 2014 Short-Term Training Program for Foreign Teachers of the Japanese Language
  • Ms. Malia ‘Aniteunete Ohi ‘Ofa, a 29 years old Japanese Language Teacher of ‘Eua High School will depart Tonga on May 12th, Monday to participate in the 2014 Short-Term Training Program for Foreign Teachers of the Japanese Language (hereinafter abbreviated as the Program) in Saitama, Japan. Ms. ‘Ofa paid a courtesy call on H.E. Dr. Kazuchika Hamuro, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Kingdom of Tonga on May 9th, Friday, 2014.

    At this meeting, H.E. Dr. Kazuchika Hamuro congratulated Ms.’Ofa for her participation in the Program. “Even though it is now a good season before summer in Japan, please take care of your health and make your Program fruitful. I am looking forward to seeing you again here speaking in Japanese when you come back from the Program”, said the Ambassador.

    Malia ‘Ofa who has been a Japanese Language teacher since 2006 acknowledged the opportunity she has won, and looks forward to develop her knowledge of the Japanese language and culture. “There is always a lot to learn in every opportunity and I am adamant to develop my knowledge in the Japanese teaching methodology.”

    Malia started learning the Japanese language when she was a Form 3 student of ‘Eua High School. Since 2006 she has taught Japanese language to students in the Taufa’ahau and Pilolevu College in Ha’apai, Tupou College/Toloa, Tonga High School in Tongatapu, and currently in ‘Eua High School since March 2014. Malia is from Angaha, ‘Eua and Vaipoa, Niuatoputapu but resides with her family at Toloa, Tongatapu.

    The Program is fully funded by the Japan Foundation, and is designed to enrich knowledge of foreign teachers in their career in teaching Japanese language, through practical training classes, and Japanese Language teaching methodology. The Program also offers cultural experience including field trips, home-stay, cultural demonstrations, and others.

    This year’s Program will be facilitated by the Japan Foundation Japanese – Language Institute in Urawa, Saitama, Japan for two month, starting from May 14th.
