Japan hands over the Project for Upgrading of Hofangahau College

The Government of Japan handed over the Project for Upgrading of Hofangahau College on Friday 18th July, 2014. H.E Dr. Kazuchika Hamuro, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Kingdom of Tonga handed over the newly constructed facilities on behalf of the people and Government of Japan. This was held during a commissioning ceremony held in conjunction with the Colleges’ 54th anniversary celebration at Hofangahau in Petani, ‘Eua.
Present at the ceremony were Hon. Sunia Fili, People’s Representative of ‘Eua to the Legislative Assembly, Mr. Sekona Tu’ipulotu, Acting Government Representative, Mr. Claude Tupou, Deputy Director for Ministry of Education, Rev Dr. Tevita Palefau, Deputy President for the Free Wesleyan Church’s Education, amongst other guests.
H.E. Dr. Kazuchika Hamuro in his keynote address stressed the significance of healthier educational environment for both students and teachers. “This improved educational environment will contribute to build a foundation for young people to participate in society and empowers them to prepare for their future lives and careers, and to play important roles for the future development of Tonga,” he stated. The Ambassador also extended his best wishes to the 54th Anniversary Celebration of the College.
In acknowledgment of the generous assistance from the people and the Government of Japan, the Ambassador was presented with a gift of appreciation by Rev. Dr. Tevita Palefau on behalf of the Free Wesleyan Church’s Education and Hofangahau College.
The Parents and Teachers’ Association of Hofangahau College sought Japan’s assistance in September 2013, to prioritize a safer and healthier educational environment for their children. Furthermore, this supports the development of Tonga’s Vocational Training Education Programme, TVET. The funding of this Project was made available through the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects, GGP of the Government of Japan.
