  • Japan handed over the Project for Upgrading of Tufuvai GPS
  • The Government of Japan handed over the Project for Upgrading of Tufuvai Government Primary School on Friday 18th July, 2014. H.E Dr. Kazuchika Hamuro, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Kingdom of Tonga handed over the newly constructed facilities on behalf of the people and Government of Japan during a commissioning ceremony held in ‘Eua.

    Present at the ceremony were Hon. Sunia Fili, People’s Representative of ‘Eua to the Legislative Assembly, Mr. Sekona Tu’ipulotu, Acting Government Representative, Mr. Claude Tupou, Deputy Director for Ministry of Education, Mr. Siosifa Kava, Chairperson of Tufuvai’s PTA, amongst other guests.

    H.E. Dr. Kazuchika Hamuro in his keynote address congratulated the completion of the Project and stressed the importance of ensuring healthier and encouraging educational environment for the students and teacher of Tufuvai GPS. “As we are all aware, access to good education is extremely important component in a society, which allows for communities to grow and advance,” stated the Ambassador.

    Mr. Claude Tupou on behalf of Tonga’s Ministry of Education acknowledged Japan’s assistance. “Today’s investment is another milestone of your Government’s unilateral and multi-sectorial assistance to Tonga. Education in Tonga has been blessed by your assistance program at all levels, in capacity building, curriculum development, education know-how, teaching and learning resources, human resources and capital resources,” said Tupou. “Our heartfelt graditute for the good and hard work that we are here at Tufuvai GPS to witness, commemorate and celebrate.”

    The Parents and Teachers’ Association of Tufuvai GPS sought for Japan’s assistance in September 2013, prioritizing a safer and healthier education environment for their children. Funding of this Project was made available through the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects, GGP of the Government of Japan.
