  • Japan handover the Non-project Grant Aid for Provision of Japanese Small and Medium sized enterprises products 2013 for Tonga
  • On June 2, the Government of Japan handover the Non-project Grant Aid for Provision of Japanese Small and Medium sized enterprises Products 2013 (hereafter, 2013 NPGA) for Tonga. H.E. Mr. Yukio Numata handover the donated products to Hon. Siaosi Sovaleni, Acting Prime Minister and Minister for MEIDECC during the handover ceremony held at the National Emergency Management Office, NEMO at Vaololoa, Nuku’alofa.

  • H.E. Numata in his remarks reiterate that, “As highlighted in the PALM7 held late last month and as well as the 3rd UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction hosted in Japan March this year, Disaster Risk Reduction is one of the focal areas of Japan’s development cooperation.”

  • The handover of the 2013 NPGA with the total amount of Japanese Yen 200million (equivalent to 3.6 million pa’anga) formalized Japan’s assistance to Tonga’s development effort in its disaster preparedness. The first batch of equipments donated to NEMO included 2000 poly water tank, 200 tents, desalination machines, water tanks and first aid kits. The second and last batch of the 2013 NPGA will be handed over later this year to Tonga Fire Service and to the Ministry of Health.

  • Hon. Siaosi Sovaleni, Acting Prime Minister and Minister for MEIDECC acknowledge the generous assistance of the people and the Government of Japan. “The assistance demonstrates Japan is not only a developing partner, but a Good Friend.”

  • The 2013 NPGS is expected to support Tonga’s efforts to implement the Tonga Strategic Development Framework, and portrays Japan’s determined commitments to contribute to the betterment of welfare of the People of the Kingdom of Tonga and the achievement of human security.
