Japan formalized further GGP Projects for Tonga

The Grant Contracts to formalize further Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Project, by the Government of Japan were signed on Tuesday, 10 September, 2024 in Nuku’alofa.
H.E. Mr. INAGAKI Hisao, Ambassador of Japan to Tonga formalized these contracts along with the benefitting communities of Koulo village of Ha’apai and ‘Utulau village in Tongatapu. The ceremony was witnessed by Hon. Tiofilusi Tiueti, Minister for Finance and Minister for Revenue and Customs, Reverend Dr. ‘Ungatea Kata and Representatives of the benefitting communities.
Japan’s GGP will fund the construction of a new evacuation centre multipurpose community hall for the village of Koulo in Ha’apai island, and will also upgrade the water supply system for the people of ‘Utulau village located in Western, Tongatapu.
“Today’s two new projects have different objectives based on the immediate needs of each community,” said the Ambassador, H.E. Mr. INAGAKI. “I hope that these project will play an important role in building stronger and more resilient societies in the Kingdom, and that our friendship will continue to be enriched by our cooperation.”
Benefitting communities acknowledged Japan’s GGP assistance which addresses basic human needs at the grassroots level. The village of Koulo looks forward to utilizing their first evacuation centre community hall. The people of ‘Utulau village expects to enjoy better access to a cleaner and safer water supply, 24 hours a day.
Hon. Tiofilusi Tiueti expressed gratitude on Japan’s commitments and ongoing assistance, “There generous assistances have assisted our local community’s development in achieving a more equitable distribution of economic and social benefits. We also commit to play our role in ensuring that these assistances are effectively managed to bring sustainable social and economic transformation to the lives of our people.
